Across cultures, honey bees are often seen as magical creatures, and their honey as a divine gift. In Maya culture, one of the hero twins of the Popol Vuh, Xbalanque, is associated with bees and beekeeping, and in ancient Greece, bees were associated with the goddess Artemis.
